Paulo Ferreira: Preferred to Lassana Diarra, presumably to avoid the youngster
picking up a booking. Had the measure of Zenden - 7
Ricardo Carvalho: The Portuguese showed the acuity of Franz Beckenbauer with
the killer pass that became a goal seconds later - 8
John Terry: In total control even after Rafael Benitez introduced Peter Crouch
in a vain effort to take the initiative - 7
Ashley Cole: It was well known that his hallmark crosses from deep would carve
open Liverpool's defence. They did - 7
Claude Makelele: Took the ball from Xabi Alonso with the stealth of a
pickpocket in one exchange. But was largely an observer - 7
Joe Cole: Switched wings to cross for Didier Drogba who should have scored.
Willingness was rewarded with goal - 7
