So it's two English clubs through so far and bye-bye Barca. Our Wednesday
columnist assesses last night's Champions League action - and Chelsea's
new potent weapon.
好了～兩隻英超隊伍已經晉級且讓我們跟巴薩說再見。週中的專欄作家史密斯說到了週中
的歐洲冠軍盃，以及切爾西的新武器─那就是利物普隊。
Hallelujah - Liverpool finally came good. The serially underachieving Anfield
outfit have had two opportunities in just over three days to do us a favour -
firstly by taking some points off Manchester United in the Premiership, and
secondly by seizing an unlikely, fortuitous moment to remove a temporarily
unsteady Barcelona from the Champions League and thereby weaken the
competition considerably, quite likely to our advantage in the long
run.

在兩件事情上為我們效力，一個是在英超幫我們替曼聯拉下點分數，另一個就是把不定時

I don't suppose many of us were banking on them to complete either of these
above averagely complex tasks, knowing Liverpool as we do.

And sure enough, the Manchester United project soon dropped out of the sky in
little pieces when, once again, Liverpool capitulated pathetically to their b
itterest rivals - this time to a last-second goal by that notoriously
fearsome penalty box predator John O'Shea, and despite the fact that
United were down to 10 men at the time.

Barcelona to walk out of Anfield with the two clear goals necessary to

themselves pitted against a Barcelona uniquely distracted by internal
bickering and injury.

and always uncomfortable knock-out stage meeting with the Spanish side is
now officially cancelled. Many thanks, Liverpool.

Our defeat of Porto represented another good night for the flags, of course.
We have a 100 percent record under flags. There would be a good argument,
perhaps, for introducing them across the board, at all home games, for the
extra yard of pace they seem to give us. There isn't a single team in
Europe that would fancy their chances against us when the flags are waving.
And Leicester.
