Chelsea to travel north in Carling Cup

Chelsea will play Blackburn Rovers away in the third round of this
season's Carling Cup. The tie, which was the last drawn out of the hat,
will be played during the week commencing 23rd October.
The only previous time these two clubs have met in this competition was in
the same round nine years ago at Stamford Bridge. That game ended 1-1
after extra-time, Roberto Di Matteo equalising a Billy McKinlay goal.
Chelsea won a penalty shoot-out 4-1. Gianluca Vialli, then still just a
player, was sent-off during extra-time.
Chelsea won the competition two seasons ago, as well as back in 1965 and
1998. Elsewhere in this afternoon's draw, new Aston Villa boss Martin
O'Neill faces a return to Leicester, the club he managed to a League Cup
triumph in 1997.
