Chelsea v Portsmouth: Preview
PA
Claudio Ranieri has called on Chelsea's fans to put the club in with a shout
of Premiership glory.
The Chelsea boss believes the best way for the Blues to bounce back from a
demoralising Boxing Day defeat against Charlton is for the King's Road
supporters to build a wall of sound around the team against Portsmouth.
The 12.30pm kick-off time is notorious for its lack of atmosphere but Ranieri
is hoping the Blues faithful will deliver against a Portsmouth side fizzing
after Boxing Day victory against Tottenham took them out of the danger zone.
"They will fight. They will play deep and defend and close space," said Ranieri
of Harry Redknapp's south coast side.
"They will fight for their lives to stop us and it will be very, very difficult
"Also, it is Sunday and it is a 12.30 kick-off, so I say to our fans, it will
be difficult for you also, and you must come and be up for the game from the
start.
"Support us at your best. We must start the game in the right attitude
everywhere in Stamford Bridge to give ourselves the best chance of the right
performance and the right result."
Redknapp will be renewing acquaintance with Joe Cole, Frank Lampard and Glen
Johnson, whom he nurtured as youngsters at West Ham and there is bound to be an
extra edge as master meets past pupils.
Ranieri is concerned only with the result, however, after proclaiming that his
side could allow themselves no more than two more defeats this season if they
are to win the Premiership title.
The 4-2 defeat at Charlton leaves Chelsea having lost three times this season,
the same number as Manchester United though Sir Alex Ferguson's side are four
points ahead of them in the table.
But Redknapp insists Charlton's performance can inspire his players to glory at
Stamford Bridge.
He said: "Charlton did extremely well against Chelsea and showed that on the
day anything can happen. I'm not surprised by the result because Alan
Curbishley is a good manager. We're old friends and I think he's done a great
job there.
"We could face a backlash from Chelsea but you never know what's going to
happen. We've got to go there and believe we can get something out of the game
and make it difficult for them. And that's what we'll do."
Ranieri is certain to make changes and striker Hernan Crespo, who missed the
Boxing Day loss with blocked sinuses, may well return at the expense of
Adrian Mutu, who has not scored for 10 games.
Juan Sebastian Veron (back) and Emmanuel Petit (knee) are still struggling with
injuries.
Pompey are facing a midfield crisis with five players unavailable. Russian
Alexei Smertin is on-loan from the Blues with his contract forbidding him to
playagainst his club while Tim Sherwood suffered a suspected broken leg in the
2-0 victory over Tottenham and could be out for some time.
Midfielders Amdy Faye, Gary O'Neil and Nigel Quashie are also in the treatment
room, paving the way for former Scotland Under-21 international captain Richard
Hughes to make another rare start.

拉老請球迷最好到現場去加油助陣,提振士氣,這是應該的
我也想呀.. 可惜機票太貴,晚上還要去看戲,
切爾西就把 Portsmouth 當曼聯.阿森納來打吧!!!
