Inconclusive over Robben

More time is needed before the exact nature of Arjen Robben’s foot
injury can be determined.
Chelsea’s star winger was forced out of Wednesday night’s game
against Blackburn shortly after scoring the winning goal. He suffered
the damage in a tackle by Aaron Mokoena.
A scan was carried out on Robben’s foot on Thursday but speaking
today (Friday), Jose Mourinho has explained that further examinations
are required.
He said: “No news. No conclusions for the moment. The only conclusion
is big, big pain. Arjen cannot walk, he cannot put his foot on the
floor and he is immobilised.
“The examinations are not conclusive at the moment because the
inflammatory process is really big. Because of all the blood and fluid
showing in the scan, they can’t understand yet whether it is a fracture
or not, or whether there is damage in a ligament or not.”
While the length of Robben’s likely absence is not yet know, it is
safe to assume he will be unavailable for Sunday’s game. That is a
match which of course carries a major sub-plot, visitors Manchester City
the only domestic side to have inflicted defeat on Chelsea this season.
“They beat us,” shrugged Mourinho with a rueful air. “I think with
a bit of luck but they fought for that and they can come here with it
in their minds that they beat us.
“They have a good team and they get results. They drew at Old Trafford
and they drew at Highbury so they can compete against the best teams
and they can take points against the best teams. Of course it is a
difficult match for us.”
Man City, who have not won at Stamford Bridge for 12 years, expect to
have midfielder Antoine Sibierski back in their squad after an attack of
the ‘flu.
They will however be without Nicolas Anelka who won and scored the
deciding penalty back in October. He transferred to Fenerbahce on Monday.
