Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been declared fit after fears over an ankle
injury he picked up in midweek.

Alexei Smertin and Wayne Bridge are back in the squad, but goalkeeper Carlo
Cudicini will not train for at least two weeks after damaging an elbow.

Southampton midfielder Paul Telfer will continue in defence, after Jason Dodd's
failure to recover from a back injury.

BIG-MATCH FACTS


CHELSEA take on Southampton - a club in turmoil - as they look to continue
their perfect start and win the first four matches for the first time ever in
their Premiership history. One-nil victories, home to Manchester United and
away to Birmingham, and the midweek 2-0 eclipse of Crystal Palace at Selhurst
Park mean the extravagantly-built Blues have taken nine points out of nine and
are yet to concede under Jose Mourinho - the only top flight club with a
watertight defence.

The three clean sheets are simply an extension of last season's form when the
Londoners amassed 32 block-outs in all competitions (21 in the Premiership).

Chelsea took a big step towards second place when they thrashed Southampton 4-0
in this corresponding fixture in May. But it was not until 17-year-old debutant
Martin Cranie put through his own goal on the hour that the Saints cracked.
Frank Lampard got a brace, both rebounds and Glen Johnson added the fourth. The
victory completed the 'double' for the Blues.

SOUTHAMPTON face a mammoth task, at the end of a week when manager Paul
Sturrock was replaced by head coach Steve Wigley, and three days after a 2-1
home defeat by Bolton, when the supporters vented their anger verbally against
chairman Rupert Lowe and the board at St Mary's.

The Saints go to the Bridge having lost three successive away matches - the 4-0
reverse to Chelsea on 1 May being the first of the trio. They failed to score
in nine away League games last season, and have already kicked off this
campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park on the opening day.

Southampton's only victory in nine Premiership visits to the Bridge was 2-4 on
New Year's Day 2002. That's also Saints' only victory in seven home and away
clashes with the Londoners.
