Man City v Chelsea
City of Manchester Stadium
Saturday, 16 October
Kick-off: 1715 BST
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BIG-MATCH FACTS
MANCHESTER CITY will run out for this Saturday tea time fixture, in search of
their first ever home Premiership victory over Chelsea. They face a tough task.
The Londoners are unbeaten under Jose Mourinho, have won their last three in
all competitions, hold the tightest defence in the Premiership, and can boast
an aggregate score of 10-0 from the last four League meetings with City.
City have won just twice in the Premiership so far this season, but have not
scored in three hours 26 minutes of top flight football. The Mancunians have
won only six of 23 League games staged at the City of Manchester Stadium.
City's only triumph in 15 League matches against Chelsea on home turf was 2-1
on 9 February 1991 in the old First Division. The only Premier League victory
the Citizens have achieved over Chelsea was 2-4 in the first fixture to be
staged at Stamford Bridge on 9 January 1993. The worst ever streak of results
against a top flight opponent for City is the current run of six defeats by
Arsenal. Chelsea will equal that, should they win again in this match.
CHELSEA head for Eastlands defending an 11 match undefeated Premiership run,
and a perfect defensive record on the road, with no goals conceded in four away
League games this term. Half of their eight top flight encounters have been won
by a 1-0 margin.
The London Blues, who host CSKA Moscow in a Champions League fixture on
Wednesday, would replace Arsenal at the top of the Premiership table if they
win and the Gunners suffer a shock home defeat by Aston Villa. Chelsea have
kept more clean sheets than any other team in the top tier, while City have
failed to score in more Premiership games than any other club, barring
Southampton.
The Londoners escaped with all three points from the City of Manchester Stadium
last February when sub Eidur Gudjohnsen hit a late winner against the run of
play. It took Chelsea's winning Premiership run at City to five games and
completed a third successive 'double' over the Light Blues. Manchester City is
one of seven current top flight clubs that have never beaten Chelsea at home in
the Premiership era. The others are West Brom, Portsmouth, Crystal Palace,
Birmingham, Spurs and Fulham.

SEQUENCES/RECENT FORM
MANCHESTER CITY
12th 8 points
Highest achievable after Saturday's games: 8th
Lowest could fall: 18th
Not won nor scored in two matches.
Lost one and drawn one since winning 7-1 at home to Barnsley in the Carling Cup
on 21 September.
Claimed just one point from a possible six since defeating Crystal Palace 1-2
at Selhurst Park on 18 September.
Failed to score in four Premiership matches this season. Only Southampton have
missed the target is as many games.
A draw will mean City had gained exactly 200 League points under Kevin Keegan.
One defeat short of chalking up 50 home losses all-time in the Premier League.
Won four of the last 18 top flight encounters.
Gone 12 top flight games since losing by more than single goal. That defeat
being the 1-3 reverse by Southampton at the City of Manchester Stadium on 17
April.
Need to net four more times to total 200 all-time Premiership goals at home.
CHELSEA
2nd 20 points
Highest achievable after Saturday's games: TOP
Lowest could fall: 2nd
Yet to lose in any competition this season.
Undefeated in ten League and Cup games (eight wins, two draws).
Beaten Manchester United (1-0 h), Birmingham (0-1 a), Crystal Palace (0-2 a)
and Southampton (2-1 h), drawn 0-0 away to Aston Villa and 0-0 home to
Tottenham, won 0-1 at Middlesbrough and beaten Liverpool 1-0 at the Bridge so
far in the Premiership.
Unbeaten in 11 Premiership games.
Won eight and drawn three since losing 2-1, away to Newcastle, on 25 April.
Won a total of six Premiership matches so far. Only Arsenal can top that with
seven victories.
One of four clubs holding an unbeaten away record in the top flight. The
others are Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham.
The Blues boast the Premiership's tightest defence. They've kept four clean
sheets on the bounce, and James Beattie's 12 second goal for Southampton at the
Bridge is the only top flight strike they have shipped under Mourinho. But, a
goal a game return, is only the 14th best strike rate in the top flight.
Kept the opposition at bay in seven of the eight League games so far. (Managed
32 block-outs last season in all competitions, 21 in the Premiership).
Hold the tightest defence in the top division - just one goal conceded in 12
hours of Premiership football this season (excluding stoppage time).
In Beattie's strike, the Londoners have conceded the quickest goal in the
Premiership this season (after just 12 seconds).
Scored just two goals in 409 minutes (six hours 49 minutes) of Premiership
football.
Not conceded in 449 minutes (seven hours 29 minutes) of top flight soccer.
Gone 11 League matches since conceding more than a single goal (2-1 loss at
Newcastle on 25 April).
Completed 28 Premiership clashes since losing by more than a single goal (4-2,
away to Charlton on Boxing Day 2003).
The total of 20 points from eight games parallels last season's start - their
best ever in the Premiership, when Chelsea accrued 20 points from the first
eight and the first nine Premiership games.
