King holds court as stubborn Tottenham frustrate Chelsea
Sun 19 Sep, 6:42 PM
Paul Robinson and Ledley King enhanced their England credentials as Tottenham
frustrated Chelsea in a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge.
Watched by Sven-Goran Eriksson's right-hand man, Tord Grip, Robinson produced
some excellent saves as Chelsea struggled to convert their domination of
possession into clear-cut chances.
The Blues were indebted to Petr Cech for a stunning reaction save from Robbie
Keane but, with King dominant and Eidur Gudjohnsen hitting the post, they were
held to a second consecutive Premiership goalless draw.
In an otherwise humdrum first half, Robinson made one excellent save from
Didier Drogba, but Chelsea were otherwise shorn of attacking invention as they
were frustrated by Spurs.
Only Joe Cole looked likely to inspire his side but even he lacked the end
product to unlock a resolute Spurs rearguard.
The final stages saw a virtual siege of the Tottenham goal, with Robinson
reacting excellently to tip Frank Lampard's free-kick round the post after
Gudjohnsen had just failed to make contact from point-blank range.
Substitute Damien Duff's cross also flashed across the face of goal, while
Gudjohnsen struck the post, albeit with Drogba in an offside position.
