Huth misses Blackburn and more

Robert Huth has failed to make the 18 man squad for tomorrow night’s
Premiership fixture at Blackburn and will be out for six to eight weeks.
The central defender had a scan on his injured knee on Monday, and
ligament damage was revealed. “He was really unlucky because someone
fell on him,” said physio Mike Banks. “At least he won’t need surgery.”
Chelsea beat Blackburn earlier this season in a home League game for
the first time since 1984, but form at Ewood Park has been good for
several years. There have been some dramatic wins including the 1998/9
4-3 with two late Tore Andre Flo goals, the 2002/3 3-2 with two
second-half Gianfranco Zola goals, and a year ago today, February 1st,
two Frank Lampard goals and a last minute Glen Johnson stunner gave
us another 3-2 victory.
Assistant manager Steve Clarke expects a fresh squad to choose from.
“We made eight changes at the weekend from the Manchester United game
a week ago,” he said from the Cobham training ground before travelling
north.
“Those who played against Manchester United but not Birmingham had a
couple of days off, and then a couple of days just ticking over, and
they’ve only just stepped up training for the last two days.
“The most important thing at this stage of the season is to be
organised, know what you’re doing, get your preparation right.”
The team reported this morning and attended a meeting with Jose
Mourinho when he went through the likely team and tactics before taking
the final training session in advance of the match.
Blackburn are in a healthy vein of form at the moment, having lost
just two of their last 11 matches. This, however, will be their first
home game since the sale of captain Barry Ferguson back to Rangers.
