Clarke: "All fit with spirit high"

週六卻爾西將以罕見的聯賽頭名姿態面對紐卡索聯隊，而且對手面臨的是一個非
常完整的陣容。卻爾西將以拉大五分差距為目標前進，開賽前24小時，史蒂夫˙克拉
克帶來一個好消息，前一陣子因傷缺席的胡斯已經隨隊訓練了幾天，現在已經正式歸
隊了。
克拉克在這獲得兩場勝仗的本週報告 "我們只是完成我們開季以來一直做的事情
而已，訓練課程非常的好，大家都全力投入，我們試著保持這種狀態面對每一場比賽
。目前為止，週中的比賽我們都處理得很好，我們像富勒姆致敬，他們讓我們感到困
擾，但我們還是挺住了。獲得勝利，保持不敗，大家都非常有自信的面對未來的挑戰
。"
而本週試著阻擋我們氣勢的球隊 － 紐卡索聯隊，已有18年未在斯坦福橋贏過球
了，不像我們，紐卡索教練索內斯必須面臨傷病的困擾，席勒大腿拉傷無法出賽，巴
特、卡爾、歐布萊恩同樣也都有傷在身，上週缺席的艾略特和約翰森則是回到陣容當
中。席勒的受傷非常有可能讓貝拉米和克魯伊維特接受特里的挑戰。
"我可以想像紐卡索會非常像他們上一場對埃佛頓那樣，他們是一支好球隊，我不
太了解索內斯，但季初我跟羅布森談過兩次，他認為那時他們擁有的是最好的陣容，
所以索內斯繼承了這個陣容，而他們目前的表現也非常好，他們只輸了兩場比賽，一
場是在卡林盃輸給我們，一場則是聯賽輸給曼聯，如果你看過那場他們防守的話，就
知道他們為什麼會輸了。"
"我們尊敬他們，因為我們知道他們進攻火力，我們預期會有一場精采的比賽，不
過假設我們能維持以往的防守和打法，我想我們能拿到三分的積分。"
Clarke and Newcastle are more than just casual acquaintances after he
began his coaching career on Tyneside under first Ruud Gullit and then
Bobby Robson. That will not be on his mind come Saturday lunchtime.
“It is just another game. I had a good couple of years at Newcastle,
the supporters were very good to me and I enjoyed it up there. It was an
important part of my learning process to becoming a coach and I took a lot
of good experiences from it.”
Now one of Clarke’s major jobs is ensuring morale is high and all are
focussed as the Chelsea squad move from Champions League and Carling Cup
progress back to the high pressure League campaign.
He reports: “The spirit is great but spirit is something we have been
working at. Everybody we have is a top international player and it is
important how you treat them when they are not playing. It is not the same
as when they are playing.
“You have to keep everybody happy, let them know you trust them and
believe in them and I think that is one of the manager’s biggest
strengths. He makes all the players feel wanted.
“If you are winning week in, week out no matter who the manager picks
then everybody has to realise and believe they can all be part of the same
winning squad. We are chasing four trophies and everybody in the squad has
to believe they can play a part in that trophy chase.”
Victory over Newcastle in the 12-45pm kick-off will put Chelsea
temporarily eight points ahead of Arsenal who do not start against
Birmingham at Highbury until 3pm.
“It would put a little bit more pressure on them,” thinks Clarke.
“We are at the top, we’ve been there about four weeks and we want to
stay there. All we can do is win our games and then it is up to the other
teams to keep wining to stay in touch with us.”
