Chelsea midfielder Scott Parker is desperate for the chance to face his old
Charlton team-mates at The Valley tomorrow.
However, he again finds himself in the familiar position of not knowing whether
his confident midweek performance warrants inclusion.
The England international left the Addicks to join Chelsea last January but has
struggled to hold down a first-team place under new coach Jose Mourinho, his
opportunities particularly limited in the Barclays Premiership.
Parker started the Champions League clash against Paris St Germain on Wednesday
night and hopes he will not fall victim to Mourinho's squad rotation against
his old club.
Mourinho has said he wants Parker to stay at Stamford Bridge, even though he
has been linked with Everton and a return to Charlton in the January transfer
window.
When Parker made his first appearance of the season, against CSKA Moscow, he
received a rapturous welcome from the Stamford Bridge faithful.
Parker said: "The fans can help when you are down.
"It is not just football. If there is someone there giving you support in
anything it helps. That night it really did with me.
"I was just overwhelmed and so pleased. It gives you that extra belief. I felt
I needed to show the crowd what I could do with their support."
Parker was also boosted by Mourinho speaking in glowing terms about him after
the Porto match.
He added: "The boss did go public and say some nice things. It gave me a boost
of confidence and made me feel part of it.
"I also have a stable life outside football and, when times are difficult, that
definitely helps too. It all ties in with me trying to become a good
professional."
