Melchiot praise for Chelsea
Birmingham full-back Mario Melchiot believes the players Jose Mourinho
inherited at Chelsea have been responsible for their success this season.
The 28-year-old Holland international left Stamford Bridge last summer
after five successful seasons in the capital, just as Mourinho arrived
from Porto.
High-profile signings have arrived at Chelsea since - including Didier
Drogba, Arjen Robben and Ricardo Carvalho - taking the west London side
10 points clear at the top of the Barclays Premiership.
But Melchiot believes the spine of Mourinho's team is the same as under
Claudio Ranieri last season, with John Terry and Frank Lampard in
particular impressing this season.
Melchiot said: "I had five seasons so I know their game and they know
my game.
"Obviously they have some new players but the heart of the team was
there last season."
But Melchiot believes Mourinho's impact has made the difference this
season, with Chelsea still involved in four competitions.
"I think Mourinho has been a breath of fresh air to the Premier League,"
he added. "We all enjoy watching him. He is fantastic at what he does
and fair play to him.
"I don't know what it is about him, a confidence, a personality, whatever
it is, he is very, very good and his team reflect him."
