Chelsea to defend FA charge

Chelsea will vigorously defend a charge from the Football Association
relating to alleged incidents during the Carling Cup tie against West
Ham at Stamford Bridge in October. The club will submit a full and
detailed reply to the charge within the deadline specified.
An FA statement said: "Chelsea FC and West Ham United FC have been
charged for the behaviour of their supporters during the Carling Cup
match at Stamford Bridge on 27th October 2004. The two clubs have been
charged with a breach of FA Rule E22 (a) for their alleged failure to
ensure that spectators, and/or persons purporting to be its supporters
or followers,conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained
from threatening and/or violent and/or provocative behaviour. Both clubs
have until 4th January to respond. "
