Millwall Youth 0 Chelsea 1
Monday, Jan 17, 2005
James Watkins’ goal ended a run of seven consecutive defeats for the
youth team which started with a home 1-2 scoreline at home to Millwall
in early November.
The goal was a fine move, started by right-back James Younghusband,
the penetration being made up the right flank by Filipe Morais, and he
got round the back and pulled the ball across for Watkins to score his
second goal of the season.
Youth team coach Brendan Rodgers said: “That’s only about the third
time we’ve been able to field a strong team since I’ve been here.
Millwall are third in our group, so they’re a strong side and it was
a good result.”
Chelsea had a cast-iron penalty turned down, thus the scoreline could
have been more emphatic. The victory was gained without injured Michael
Mancienne and James Simmonds, and despite Phil Younghusband going off
injured in the first-half.
