The Youth team followed up their pre-season victory over Malmo with an
impressive 3-0 win at the expense of Swindon Town at the weekend.

The game, held at Cobham, was dominated for periods by Chelsea, who were
able to make wholesale changes at half-time, allowing more players to
participate. We went in front after just 12 minutes, with Morten Nielsen
finding the net after a positive run and cross by left back Ben Gordon.

'We started well in the first 20 to 25 minutes,' explained manager Paul
Clement, pictured, 'and we had the game under control with good
possession. But then we got a bit frustrated, they stood off with two
banks of four, and made it difficult to pass through. We didn't finish the
half well after dominating.'

Clement made a string of changes at half-time, ensuring as many players as
possible tasted the action, building up their match fitness. Despite a
poor start to the second half, the young Blues team came into their own,
and grew stronger throughout the period.

With quarter of an hour remaining, Adam Phillips made it 2-0 with a great
goal, bending the ball around the despairing goalkeeper from outside the
box.

Eight minutes later and victory was safe, as good pressing by Phillips
high up the pitch won the ball, creating a chance for Fabio Borino, who
took his opportunity with a powerful shot.

'It was pleasing to score three, not to concede and to have finished
strongly,' said Clement afterwards.

Next up for the youth team is the trip to Malaysia in the Champions Youth
Cup, with their first game on Wednesday 8 August, a tough test against PSV
Eindhoven.
