Our recent winning run came to an end in midweek, but today's opponents
Everton have now notched up five consecutive victories, and John Mikel Obi
knows we will have to be at our best to come out on top against the
Toffees.

Our opponents are unbeaten since their 2-1 Merseyside derby defeat to
Liverpool on 20 October, while our own run now extends to 10 matches,
including the seven-game winning streak that was ended by the goalless
draw at Schalke on Tuesday.

There will be some interesting battles all over the field, but much focus
will be in the centre of the park, where if selected Mikel will be looking

The pair are the creative force in what has been a five-man Everton
midfield, supporting lone forward Yakubu in Andrew Johnson's absence.

'They are doing well, I think Cahill is back from injury and is a
fantastic player, but we have a great team as well, and with our standard
of players we have to decide the way of the game on the pitch,' Mikel said.

'I think we have more quality than they do, so we have to use it,' he
added.

Mikel has played a part in 14 of our games so far this season, having sat

more than at the same point last season, suggesting the Nigerian has
graduated from promising youngster to first team regular.

He is confident that it is Everton's unbeaten record that will go at
Stamford Bridge, rather than our own. 'Everyone knows Everton are a good

Mikel will come face-to-face with international colleague Aiyegbeni Yakubu
this afternoon, and when asked about the ￡11.25 million forward's threat
to Chelsea, his response was simple.

'I know him quite well, but they've got Yakubu and we've got Didi,' he
smiled.

While many commentators have been quick to praise the attacking football
on display, Mikel has also praised the way the team are defending in the
absence of captain John Terry, suggesting that while he is missed, the
skipper's injury has not damaged the team's progress too much.

'I don't think so. Maybe we miss him as a player, he is injured, and we
want everyone to be fit for the team, but we are doing fantastically well.

This, he says, is not down to the team doing anything differently.
Speaking on the work of the midfield in providing a cover for the defence,

The defenders do their work and we do ours, and from what I've seen in the
past few games, the defenders have been great, credit to them.'
