Like many Chelsea fans, our midweek columnist is trying to get his head
around the latest version of his team. He has also been thinking about
Schalke and Scousers.

We've seen a lot of different Chelseas for our money over the last few games.

Champions League group, with two games remaining and qualification for the
knock-out stages just a couple of points away.

Whatever it might look like, there's quite a lot to be said for taking a
point from a tricky away game against hyped-up opposition, in which nothing
has really gone right and in which your goalkeeper has limped away with a
calf injury at half-time

difficult night at the office' which was sort of right. And yet where is this
office that people keep talking about? And why are people there working
nights?

We propose a blanket ban on the 'day/night at the office' metaphor -
FIFA-enforced, if necessary. It started out, harmlessly enough, as a way of
describing something unutterably routine or humdrum: 'just another day at the
office.'
如果有必要，我們打算提議世界足聯下令禁止使用類似"白天或晚上在辦公室"這樣的比喻

Whenever Chelsea played Spurs, for instance, it could rightly be said to be

Since then, the assumption seems to have grown that footballers are ALWAYS in
the office, and capable of undergoing all kinds of experiences there, of
every human shade, good, bad and indifferent. This isn't true to either
football or offices. For all our sakes, it must stop.

Did you ever see so many scuffs and deflections in all your life? Of the
eight goals, I calculate that only two could be described, without a sense of
humour, as intentional.

The other six were pretty much exclusively crosses inadvertently turned in by
defenders, or speculative long-range shots which struck a centre back square

described habitually by Liverpool supporters as 'an historic night at
Anfield', because any time Liverpool do anything even remotely out of the
ordinary, it automatically becomes 'an historic night at Anfield'.
不過，當然我們還得去習慣那些利物浦的球迷會把這場勝利稱為"安菲爾德的歷史時刻"。
因為每次只要利物浦稍微反常一點，那天就會成為"安菲爾德的一個歷史時刻"。
Such is the self-mythologising nature of the club, coupled with the readiness
to buy into those myths of over-excitable people who ought to know better,
such as the entire ITV commentary team.
這是利物浦喜歡將自我神話的天性，再加上今年他們又買進了一些令人興奮的神話級球員

This, after all, is meant to be a competition between the cream sides of

Champions League would collapse, followed shortly afterwards by the
tournament itself.

Clearly Liverpool would do well to reflect on these potentially disastrous
consequences before organising any more so-called 'historic nights at
Anfield'.

Next up for us: Everton in the league, and Keith Wyness, the Everton chief
executive, has already had some harsh and, you could even say, ungrateful
things to say this week about the business operation at our club.

Talking to the press on bonfire night, just after Chelsea had announced that

in charge of the fireworks tonight.'

I don't think so, because Wyness's three-year-old would eventually, one

Anyway, Wyness went on, 'They've changed the whole business model in terms of
money that's been put into the Premier League. Although there are some great
points about that in terms of publicity gained, they've certainly made it a
bit difficult for the rest of the teams in the league.'

Just a whiff of sour grapes there, maybe? I don't know. But I do know that
Saturday would be a very good time to demonstrate to Wyness, exactly and in
unmissable detail, just how difficult we've made it for teams such as his.
