RESERVES BREAK NEW GROUND

Chelsea's reserve side this week played a game to open the newly-built
home of MK Dons - stadium:mk.

Brendan Rodgers's side were using the game as a pre-season friendly and
faced a first choice line-up from the League Two side that included
former QPR striker Kevin Gallen and Chelsea youth product Leon Knight up
front. A crowd of over 5,000 watched.

The Blues were defeated 4-3 with the Chelsea goals a 25-yard strike by
midfielder Liam Bridcutt (pictured); a penalty both won and scored by Phil
Younghusband and a fine shot into the top corner by Ben Sahar.

Rodgers is happy with the way preparations are progressing: 'It was our
second pre-season game having played Charlton behind closed doors at
Cobham,' he says.

'I was pleased overall with the game. It was an outstanding pitch which
encouraged both teams to play football the way it should be played and the
stadium was superb. It looks like MK Dons may have a big future there.
'Our main objective was to improve fitness against good opposition and
this achieved although we still have some way to go. As with Charlton when
we also played their first team, MK Dons were complementary afterwards
about our performance.'
