Angeles, Calif. , on March 19, 1891. He graduated from the University of Califo
rnia with B. L. and J. D. degrees, and was admitted to the California bar in 19
14. Chief Justice Warren was attorney general of California from 1939 to 1943.
From 1943 to 1953 he was Governor of California and in September 1953 was appoi
nted by President Eisenhower to be the Chief Justice of the United States.
