In a country without freedom, you cannot pursue all the
research topics you are interested in.
In addition, your access to the Internet is partially blocked.
It seems very inconvenient for doing research.
Unless you study something totally irrelevant to the politics,
like math, physics, I don't think China a good place to
do academic researches.

From my point of view,
this means working in China is LESS attractive than working in Taiwan.
Because the overall codition of a job is worse,
firms have to pay a HIGHER salary to compensate employees.
