Tool's Lateralus Debuts At No. 1; Sells 555,000 Units May 23, 2001, 9:45 am PT Destiny's Child's Survivor spent just two weeks in the top spot on The Billboard 200 as the latest effort from Tool, Lateralus, debuts at No. 1 behind a whopping 555,000 in sales in its first week. In addition to the U.S. charts, Lateralus also debuted in the No. 1 spot in Canada and Australia and marks Tool's highest debut and biggest selling week ever. The album also debuted in the top 5 or top 10 in various other countries, such as New Zealand and Norway (No. 2), Germany (No. 5), Holland (No. 7), Sweden (No. 8), and Austria (No. 9). But Tool wasn't the only shake up in the top 10 this week as four additional albums found their way into the fray during their first week out as well. Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott's Miss E…So Addictive landed at No. 2 with just over 250,000 in sales; Weezer's self-titled third album hit No. 4 on 215,000 scans; R.E.M.'s Reveal grabbed the No. 6 spot on 126,000 in sales; and Depeche Mode's Exciter hit No. 9 on the strength of 114,000 units sold. Destiny's Child fell to No. 3 in the alt-rock whirlwind.
