RELIEF AFTER 1-0 VICTORY
Goalscorer Albert Luque said about the win against Juventus that "the
final score might look a bit narrow, but before the match I would have
loved to achieve it. It's a hopeful result for the match in Delle Alpi
although we'll have a tough time there. But Deportivo have shown again
that we're of a high level and against big teams we always play good
matches".
Luque explained that the motivation of his team was a key factor for
the win. "We were very much motivated and focused although it's difficult
to play at this level all the time. For the next match we should be more
careful although now it's up to them to take risks. Juventus played a good
match tonight but we were just excellent. We pressed a lot and we didn't
let them come into the match. It was one of those matches every player loves
to be in".
Argentinean player Lionel Scaloni also showed his satisfaction about the
final result and commented that "we're convinced we can make it to the
next round. All possibilities are still open but now we have achieved an
advantage. Beforehand I would have signed to achieve this result and there's
no reason to be sad about the chances we have missed. Of course we wanted
to score more goals. But like I said before, this is a result we wanted".
Winger Victor Sanchez stressed the fact that Deportivo didn't leak a goal
last night. "To have kept a blank sheet could be a key to survive the return
match and qualify for the next round". The ex-Real Madrid player added
that, in his opinion, he should have earned a penalty near the end of the
match. "I think it was one as I went for the ball while a defender of
Juventus jumped on top of me".
Jorge Andrade, again very secure in the defence of Deportivo, was of the
opinion that his team fully deserved the result. "And we're on our way to
the next round. It was great to score a goal here while they did not. But
now we must show that this win wasn't an incident and we're capable enough
to beat a quality opponent like Juventus. In the return match we should
hang on to this lead, but it will be very important for us to score a goal".
Finally, Deportivo president Lendoiro praised the players of his club while
he looked forward to playing in Italy. "It has been a good match in which
we had most opportunities to score goals. The sad thing is that we could
have sentenced the round here. While Juventus also had some chances it was
Deportivo having control over the match. In the end we achieved a good
result, although it wasn't the best possible". But Lendoiro knows that
the round isn't over yet. "And in Italy we should play like we did here in
Riazor and not to be satisfied with a minimal loss".
