IRURETA AND MOLINA COMMENT ON LIGA DEFEAT
8th March 2004 -- Coach Javier Irureta of Deportivo indicated after
the 3-0 Liga loss at Valencia that his team missed “balance” to
achieve a better result on Saturday. The coach especially pointed
to the start of the match, as Valencia were given two penalty kicks,
and to the final minutes as the home team could add two goals to
their 1-0 lead.
Irureta commented that “we had 15 minutes when we weren’t well
positioned and Valencia took the lead. But after their score we did
well and the match was more or less even. Nevertheless, in the second
part too we missed balance in the team and that’s why Valencia
could score two more goals. I cannot say that the win of Valencia was
unfair, although the final score was exaggerated”.
When asked about the two penalty kicks, Irureta indicated that “I
cannot comment on both because I just couldn’t see it well. At the
second incident there were two or three players blocking my view and
I have no clue what happened there. But my players told me about the
first incident that, if something had happened, it was outside the area”
. Irureta finalized his comments by saying that “we should reflex on
the match and set our minds on Turin”.
Goalkeeper Molina labelled the match as “a disaster although it was
ours despite playing with ten men”. The Valencia-born goalkeeper commented
on the penalty kick of Vicente that “I couldn’t do much about it
although I was in the right corner. But he hit it well”. Finally, Molina
commented on the Liga chances of Deportivo that “they are almost gone.
We should continue fighting although it will be very difficult. But it’s
a sad thing because we weren’t inferior against Valencia”.
