CORINTHIANS AFTER DJALMINHA
5th March 2004 -- Brazilian midfielder Djalminha of Deportivo might have
confirmed that in his opinion the interest of Brazilian club Corinthians
in negotiating a transfer of him could become concrete after the current
season. Djalminha commented that "I have one more year of contract to go
after this season. And my time at the club will end in June 2005. It's
evident that in the middle of the Liga season it's difficult to achieve
a transferdeal. But near the end of the season all options will be open
again".
These words were spoken by Djalminha when he was interviewed by Agencia
Placar, moments after in Sao Paolo a director of Corinthians, Roberto
Rivellino, mentioned the name of Djalminha as one of the most important
candidates to strenghten his team for the next season. The agency quoted
Djalminha saying that "I am very happy that it concerns a club like
Corinthians. Especially because the interest comes from Rivellino, with
whom I have an immense friendship".
But on Wednesday the midfielder claimed in the Spanish press that he isn't
considering leaving Deportivo at the moment and to move to Corinthians, as
the Brazilian agency claims. Djalminha said that "I cannot say things like
this because it hasn't come to my mind. And besides, I am concentrating my
thoughts on Deportivo and the targets we have and we want to achieve, in
the Liga as well as in Europe.
Nevertheless, Djalminha didn't want to close the door completely for a
possible transfer away from Deportivo. "If June arrives let's see what
happens", Djalminha finalized.
