Edgar Gonzalez, Diamondbacks
A late addition to the game when Cubs righthander Angel
Guzman went on the shelf with shoulder problems, Gonzalez
was impressive with his four-pitch arsenal. Known as a
sinker-slider pitcher, he showed above-average movement
on his boring 86-87 mph two-seamer, a pitch he used to
jam Brewers shortstop J.J. Hardy in the second inning,
and a lively 93-94 mph four-seamer. He also mixed in a curve,
slider and changeup in his hitless frame. When Gonzalez
made his major league debut earlier this season at age 20,
he became the youngest player in the bigs. With this type
of stuff and his solid command, Gonzalez will be ready to
jump into the Diamondbacks rotation in the second half if needed.
