a non-roster invitee to Spring Training. The Diamondbacks will open the
season with Brandon Medders on the disabled list, retroactive to March 24
(back inflammation). The final spring moves yesterday included the assignment
of non-roster pitcher Casey Daigle, infielder Jerry Gil and outfielder Carlos
Quentin to Minor League camp.
Also, the Diamondbacks will be without third-base coach Carlos Tosca for at
least the first week of the season due to a broken bone in his right foot.
Chip Hale (#6), the manager for Tucson (AAA), will assume the third-base
coaching chores until Tosca is ready to return to the field.
