"The Diamondbacks used a supplemental first round pick on University of
Massachusetts righthander Matt Torra last June. I am writing this comment
on November 26, 2005. A year ago today, Torra was a college guy with a live
arm but a weak pitching track record. I input his numbers from both 2004 and
2005 so you can see how much he improved last spring. Note the sharp increase
in his strikeout rate, a drop in walks, and reduction in hits allowed, all
component ratios showing major improvement. Torra always had a good arm with
a 90-94 MPH fastball. The key last year was improving his curveball and
changeup both of which rate as good pitches, and sharpening his command.
If he stays healthy, I think he will be a solid number two or three starter
at the major league level. Grade B+"
