Looking at the top pitching prospects http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5636770 10. Dustin Nippert, RHP, Diamondbacks, Age: 25 Acquired: 15th round, 2002, West Virginia U. Nippert underwent Tommy John surgery in 2004, so the current season is his first fully healthy one since going under the knife. Thus far in 2006, he's got a 3.83 ERA despite pitching half his games at AAA-Tuscon, one of the best hitter's parks in the minor leagues. Nippert makes hay with a mid-90s fastball , hammer curve and solid off-speed stuff. His third pitch needs further cultivation, but it's a workable offering. He could be in Arizona for good in the second half of the season. Looking at the top outfielder prospects http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5616182 1. Justin Upton, Diamondbacks, Age: 18 Acquired: 1st round, 2005, Great Bridge HS (Chesapeake, VA) Upton is a lavishly gifted ballplayer who's got all the tools. The Snakes drafted him as a shortstop, but after settling on Stephen Drew at the position they've moved Upton to the outfield. Long-term, Upton will man center, but to ease his adjustment he's also seeing time in left this season at Low-A South Bend. At the plate, he's hitting .313 AVG/.389 OBP/.422 SLG, and on the bases he's got five steals in seven attempts. It'll take some time for the power to develop, but even in the here and now, Upton has an improbably mature approach at the plate. He's a future superstar at the highest level. 4. Chris Young, Diamondbacks, Age: 22 Acquired: 16th round, 2001, Bellaire HS (Bellaire, TX) Young, acquired from the White Sox as part of the Javier Vazquez trade, is a tremendous prospect. He's got raw power, patience at the plate, speed and efficiency on the bases and an excellent glove in center. Some observers get hung up on his modest batting average and high strikeout totals, but Young does everything else you could ask (despite an aggressive promotion schedule in the minors). He's struggling at Triple-A Tucson thus far, but that's mostly the result of an off-season wrist injury. With Upton in the Arizona fold, Young's future is a bit uncertain, but he'll be an All-Star-caliber center fielder for someone. 7. Carlos Gonzales, Diamondbacks, Age: 20 Acquired: Non-drafted free agent, 2002, Venezuela Despite young for the circuit, Gonzales last season claimed Midwest League MVP honors, and this year he's keeping it up at High-A Lancaster. His numbers on the year (.269 AVG/.333 OBP/.463 SLG) may not look superficially impressive, but Gonzales is young for the league, and he's tallied 16 extra-base hits in 134 ABs. Those power numbers will only get better once his body fills out. 10. Carlos Quentin, Diamondbacks, Age: 23 Acquired: 1st round, 2003, Stanford Yes, the D-backs are in fact loaded in the outfield. Quentin hits to all fields and boasts a good eye at the plate, contact skills and a capable glove in right . His power numbers, once you adjust for Arizona's hitter-friendly system, aren't that impressive, but otherwise he's a good offensive contributor. This season, Quentin isn't yet hitting at Triple-A Tucson: .256 AVG/.383 OBP/.436 SLG. However, he's taking his walks, and an injury to his side may be dampening his numbers. He should find his way into the Arizona outfield mix by 2007. Looking at top shortstop prospects http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5594116 2. Stephen Drew, Diamondbacks, Age: 23 Acquired: 1st round, 2004, Florida State Now that Justin Upton has been moved to center field, it appears Drew is indeed the Snakes' shortstop of the future. He hits for power and average and runs the bases well. His numbers dropped a bit last season after a promotion to Double-A Tennessee, but this season Drew's at Triple-A Tucson. His numbers on the season (.315 AVG/.373 OBP/.535 SLG) suggest he's making the transition. Looking at the top third-base prospects none Looking at the top second-base prospects http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5542108 5. Alberto Callaspo, Diamondbacks, Age: 23 Acquired: Non-drafted free agent, 2001, Venezuela (by Angels) Acquired from the Angels in exchance for reliever Jason Bulger, Callaspo is a consistent hitter for average, and he runs the bases well. Defensively, he's excellent at second. He hasn't flashed much power in the high minors, but he posts high contact rates and projects as a .300 hitter in the majors. If Callaspo can tighten up his plate discipline, he'll be a strong on-base threat . If the Snakes opt to part ways with Orlando Hudson after this season, Callaspo will likely be their starting second baseman in 2007. Looking at the top First-base prospects none Looking at the top Catcher prospects http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5498846 8. Miguel Montero, Diamondbacks, Age: 22 Acquired: Non-drafted free agent, 2001, Venezuela Montero has a strong pull stroke, and he made strides with his plate discipline last season. He struggled after a late-season promotion to Double-A Tennessee, but struggling in one's first exposure to the high minors isn't entirely damnable. Montero's defense has improved in recent seasons, but he needs to show he can handle advanced pitching. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 203.203.194.12
