College World Series
Diamondbacks 3rd round pick Dallas Buck pitched an inning in relief and was
the victor as Oregon State beat North Carolina 3-2 in the game and 2-1 in the
series to be the CWS Champions. Buck, who had started in Game 1, came in with
2 runners on and no outs in the 8th of a 2-2 game. He got a groundout and then
walked the bases loaded. But as he has done all season, Buck bore down and got
2 strikeouts to end the inning. Oregon State scored the winning run in the
bottom of the inning.
Buck, who is now free to negotiate with the Diamondbacks, has been pitching
with reduced velocity of his fastball all season. He will be checked by the
D’Backs medical staff before they decide if he will need surgery.
If surgery is needed, the D’Backs are expected to sign him at a discount.
