精華區beta Diamondbacks 關於我們 聯絡資訊
Being an expansion team, the Diamondbacks have been dependent on the expansion draft and free agent signings to compete in the NL West. It also takes some time to fill up the farm system especially for all 6 teams. The last few drafts however have begun to produce and the system is now filled with younger players and less and less veteran free agents. Due to the organization’s philosophy of drafting more advanced college players, the lower teams are older than the league average in age but they also aggressively push players who are ready up the chain, resulting in young teams in Triple A and Double A. The D’Backs may not draft many high school players but they do not shy from signing teenagers from Latin America. Among this group are current D’Backs Jose Valverde (signed at 18) and Greg Aquino (17), as well as the 2 Gonzalezes, Edgar (17) and Enrique (16). The movement towards a younger team looks to continue especially at the Major League level. Edgar and Enrique Gonzalez have joined the rotation and the D’Backs have recently cut ties with veterans Jason Grimsley, Terry Mulholland and Russ Ortiz. With Luis Gonzalez and Craig Counsell most likely leaving as well, the team will soon dip into the minor league system for the next generation of D’Backs. They have 3 everyday players born in 1983 and with the exception of catcher, none of the other position players have major league experience. The rotation is a bit murky at the moment but the remaining 3 starters are all below 25 including Micah Owings who was only drafted last year.
