Dodgers Sign Longtime Braves Reliever Peter Moylan By gondeee on Jan 16 The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed right-handed relief pitcher Peter Moylan to a minor league contract. Moylan leaves the Atlanta Braves organization after seven years. He was originally a part of the Twins organization, and was out of American baseball for almost a decade. The Braves signed him after seeing his performance in the World Baseball Classic in 2006. As one of the longest tenured members of the Braves bullpen, Moylan compiled a 2.59 ERA and a 1.285 WHIP during his seven seasons in a Braves uniform. He was never much of a strikeout pitcher, he was instead usually referred to as the Braves ground ball specialist, because of his ability to induce ground balls. I'm actually a little miffed that the Dodgers only had to sign him to a minor league deal. I would have thought the Braves could have used him in their bullpen (and in their clubhouse), and all it took was a minor league deal? I wonder what the hangup was. Perhaps it was Moylan or his agent's view of a clear path to win a spot in spring training. Perhaps LA offered more incentives if he made the Major League squad.
