Deki started playing football when he was only 2(or 6)-year-old.
His father, Borislav, was a right-winger at OFK, and his mother,
Dragica, played centre-forward for Sloga Zemun, one of the strongest
teams in Yugoslav woman's football.
In autumn 1992 (14-year-old), he joined Red Star Beograd's youth team.
Durling his youth he often played libelo, later he was mainly in
central midfield.
In February 1995 (16-year-old), he made debut in a league game against
OFK Beograd and became the youngest debutant in Red Star's history.
He played for Yugoslav youth team 21caps and 9goals.

Deki's favourite shirt number is 6.
"It began during the qualifiers(EURO 2000). I scored in Dublin
wearing 6 and remembered that I also scored wearing 6 in my first
match for Lazio, in same stadium, in a pre-season friendly against
St Patrick's.Then I thought back and recalled my goals against Korea
(his international debut match) and Switzerland."

Deki's wife Ana is a sister of Milenko Acimovic who is a player of
RedStar and Slovenia. Deki first met Ana, when she came to watch her
brother's play at the stadium. 1st July 2000, they got married when
hewas 21-year-old. They have two sons named Stefan, was born on 15th
September 2000 and Filip, was born on 25th February 2002.
