Hyperion consumes only two goods, X and Y, and has the utility function
U(X,Y)=XY. The currency in this country is the fragel. In 1900, the price
of good 1 was 1 fragel and the price of good 2 was 2 fragels. Per capita
income was 72 fragels. In 2000, the price of good 1 was 5 fragels and the
prices of good 2 was 2 fragels. What is the Laspeyres price index for the
price level in 2000 relative to the price level in 1900?
3. (10分) A consumer's behavior was observed in three situations with
different prices and incomes. In situation 1, she chose a bundle that
cost $1600. In situation 2, she chose a bundle that cost $2500. In
situation 3, she chose a bundle that cost $3100. The bundle purchased in
situation 2 would cost $1200 at situation 1 prices. The bundle purchased
in situation 3 would cost $2000 at situation 2 prices. This consumer's
behavior is known to satisfy the strong axiom of revealed preferences.
Therefore,

3 prices.

$1100 next year. He can borrow and lend money at an interest rate of 10%.
Consumption goods cost $1 per unit this year and there is no inflation.
(a)What is the present value of his endowment?
(b)John has the utility function U(C1,C2)=C1C2. Solve for John's optimal
choice when the interest rate is 10%.
