On at least a couple of occasions, including before his one-inning look on Friday, right-handed prospect Chin-hui Tsao has told Hurdle in no uncertain terms he wants to grasp the closer job.

Tsao did his part Friday, showing a lively fastball and high-quality changeup, as well as some composure. Tsao would have escaped without Podsednik scoring had Helton, who grabbed Harris' line drive, not slipped while trying to throw to third to double Podsednik off the bag. The error made the run unearned.

The front office has expressed some concern about the lack of experience for Tsao, 23, who has had late-season trials the last two years. But Hurdle said he is not going to rule Tsao out of being the Opening Day closer.
