Tsao makes second career start

Knowing first-hand that hype can be the enemy of a young player's career,
Colorado Rockies manager Clint Hurdle holds back on pronouncements about
projects.
But he can't hide the fact that Rockies phenom Chin-hui Tsao, who beat
Milwaukee in his debut at Coors Field and will make his second start on
Thursday night against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park,
has a lot to like.
Tsao gave up three runs in 6 1/3 innings. He was not dominant, but Hurdle
liked his overall approach, especially to a little adversity. The Brewers'
Eric Young knocked Tsao's second pitch for a home run. The fact Tsao rated
his performance a "C" immediately after the game signaled to Hurdle that
he can evaluate himself honestly.
"I was encouraged by his (17) first-pitch strikes," said Hurdle, who came
up as a highly touted catcher for Kansas City in the 1970s but never
reached the height of the hype. "I was encoourged by his overall command
in his first Major League appearance. His poise, mound presence, I thought
was encouraging, so we'll see.
"He'll show us what he shows us. Talking about what he can show us is a
waste of time for me. His actions will speak louder than anything else."

Players to watch:
Acevedo has had success against the Rockies in Cincinnati. He held them
to three runs, two earned, and struck out five in six inings in a 7-3
victory last Aug. 11 at old Cinergy Field.
