Chin-hui Tsao has been labeled one of the top pitching prospects in the Colorado
Rockies minor league system. Friday night in Drillers Stadium, he showed why
the Rockies are so excited to have him.
Tsao picked-up his 8th win of the year with a dazzling 8-inning performance in a
6-2 win over the El Paso Diablos that took only two hours and six minutes to
complete. Tsao allowed only four hits, fo
ur walks and two runs in his longest outing of the season. He struck out 9
Diablos hitters.
It was necessary for Tsao to be in command, as El Paso starter Beltran Perez (2-
7) was matching his performance for much of the night. Neither team had a
baserunner through the game's first three inn
ings.
The scoreless deadlock was finally broken in the top of the fourth inning.
Victor Hall started the frame by singling, but was thrown out attempting to
steal second. Andy Green followed with a double
down the left field line. After Jesus Cota walked, Willie Morales hit a smash
off first baseman Kevin Burford's glove into shallow right field, allowing Green
to score the game's first run. Morales w
as credited with an infield single on the play.
Perez retired the first 12 Drillers hitters in the game before running into
trouble in the fifth inning. A leadoff walk to Andy Tracy began his problems. J.
D. Closser followed with Tulsa's first hit
of the game, a two-run homer to right field to put the Drillers in front 2-1.
Matt Holliday followed and reach on an error. Javier Colina then put runners at
second and third with a double. Ronnie Me
rrill followed with a sacrifice fly to score Holliday, then Tsao helped himself
with a sacrifice fly to score Colina and give Tulsa a 4-1 lead.
From there, Tsao took control. He allowed only one more hit over the next three
inning, a leadoff home run to the pitcher Perez to start the 6th inning to trim
the lead to 4-2.
The Drillers added insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th and the 8th. In the
6th, singles from Burford and Brad Hawpe were followed by an RBI single from
Tracy.

Mike Bumatay made sure that Tsao's performance was not wasted setting the
Diablos down in order in the 9th to preserve the win.
The win, combined with Frisco's loss to San Antonio, moved the Drillers into a
first-place tie with the RoughRiders.
The Drillers and Diablos will continue their series on Saturday night in Tulsa.
Chris Buglovsky (4-6, 4.88) will pitch for the Drillers against Matthew Henrie (
1-0, 4.50) of the Diablos. Game time is
set for 7:05PM CDT, with a large fireworks show scheduled for after the game.
