DRILLERS WIN OPENER IN MIDLAND
Friday Jul 18, 2003
Big innings have been common for the Drillers during their current
road trip. The trend continued Friday night in the opener of a
four-game series in Midland when Tulsa scored 6 runs in the 8th
inning to gain a 7-1 win over the RockHounds. Every Tulsa starter
recorded at least one hit in the victory.
During their last four games, the Drillers have had a 6-run inninng,
a 9-run inning and then the 6-run inning on Friday.
The big inning was more than enough for Chin-hui Tsao to pick-up
his 11th win of the year. Tsao (11-4) pitched eight innings,
allowing only three hits and one run while striking out seven.
Tsao has now won his last seven decisions.
The Drillers and RockHounds were scoreless on Friday until the top
of the seventh inning. With one out, Seth Taylor singled to center
field off Midland starter Mike Ziegler. One out later, Enohel
Polanco doubled into the left field corner to score Taylor and break
the scoreless tie.
Tulsa broke the game open with its big 8th inning. Javier Colina had
an RBI triple in the rally to make it 2-0. Then Andy Tracy, Kevin
Sullivan, Cory Sullivan and Tino Sanchez all added RBI singles.
Midland's lone run against Tsao scored in the bottom of the 8th
when Dan Johnson doubled and scored on an RBI single by John Baker.
Ziegler (7-7) was the hard-luck loser, allowing only one run and
six hits in seven innings.
Tulsa and Midland will play game two in their series Saturday night
in West Texas.
