http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/teams/report/COL Rockies report: Inside pitch July 21, 2003 By the time the Rockies left San Francisco on Sunday night, they were looking at the future, like it or not. Their hopes of contention pretty well ended when they were swept in a four-game series by the Giants, which left the Rockies 12 1/2 games behind divison-leading San Francisco. More than that, however, left-hander Denny Neagle, who started Sunday, had a recurrence of the arthritic left elbow problem that forced him to spend the first 71 games of the season on the disabled list. That left the Rockies with the very real possibility that both Neagle and outfielder Larry Walker could be headed to the disabled list. The Rockies could disable Neagle with the idea that top prospect Chin-hui Tsao could be called up from Double-A Tulsa to take Neagle's place in the rotation against Milwaukee on Friday. In the meantime, however, they could call up top outfield prospect Rene Reyes from Triple-A Colorado Springs for the four-game series the Rockies open Monday night in Los Angeles, allowing them to buy time to decide what to do with Walker. Walker, who has played through a torn left labrum so far this season, was limited to pinch-hit duties the last two games because of a groin problem. General manager Dan O'Dowd will join the team Monday in Los Angeles, where the final decisions will be made. In the last week, Reyes played in the Futures Game and Triple-A All-Star Game. Primarily a leadoff hitter for the SkySox, he is hitting .344 with 23 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 50 RBI . Tsao, who pitched in the Futures Game, has battled a blister on his right index finger but is 11-4 with a 2.46 ERA for Tulsa, second in the Double-A Texas League in victories and earned run average, and leads the league with 125 strikeouts in 113 innings. He has walked 26. Copyright (C) 2003 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 61.231.138.109
