Good to hear different voices in this board.  You guys provide not only food
for thoughts but a wonderful opportunity for English learners to see clearer
the essense of lang. learning.  There's no definite right or wrong as to this
no-simple-answer topic, and there's no need to see it as a "either-or" choice.

But I would like to raise some questions here, hoping that they would be as
inspirational for me as they are to you.  I would put it very simply, with
a regard for my limited lang. competence.

(1) Why do people KEEP reading comic books, seeing movies, listening to pops,
    while they scarcely pick up an english-written book especially after they
    finish their formal education？

(2) Why do Taiwanese students rank at the second from the bottom in Toefl per-
    formance after all these painstaking efforts？

(3) Why do most learners recall their English learning as memorizing endless
    vocabulary and being tortured with never-get-it grmmars, but end up choos-
    ing the SAME path of lang.learning when they have a "give it a one last try
    " wish？

Shouldn't English learning be fun, so that we keep learning for its own sake？

Shouldn't we try to accept the idea that sometimes NO PAINS, STILL GAINS. as
long as we try other more intersting yet effective ways of lang. learning？

Shouldn't we DO SOMETHING when our old trick doesn't work as well as we
expected？

We are HUMAN, lazy and fragile.  But we are smart as well, aren't we？ ^^
