        僅針對上面這兩個例句的話，
        我的理解是這樣的，也請大家提供一下意見集思廣益吧！
        round和around在你的例子中是做介詞用，
        都有"圍繞"或"環繞"的意思，
        所以they sit round the table基本上就等於they sit around the table。
        尤其在口語的用法時都是通用的。
        不過單就字眼來看，
        round的本身就有圓、圍成一圈的意思，
        所以若要更精準的使用這兩個字，
        sit round the table是在桌邊圍成一個圈，繞著桌子坐。
        而sit around the table則是以table為中心點，
        在桌子的附近就坐，可以是圍成一圈、也可以是較為零散的分佈，
        因為around主要還是指類似about、"在四周"、"在附近"的意思。

        至於我剛提到的，"round"跟"around"口語時相當，
        另一因素也是由於發音雷同囉。
        有人就會寫成They sit 'round here.來表示他省卻了around裡的a，
        給人的感覺就是日常生活中的略讀口語了。
        美國人會較常用around，但是唸得快，round、around幾乎難以分辨了。
