I always asked this question to people who want to learn English. Not surprisingly everyone has a different goal or reason to learn English. Instead of memorizing thousands of words which for most people will never use in regular conversation stick to things that interest you. Involve yourself with the culture such as music, movies or anything you like. Who cares if you say something wrong but you have to have the courage to say it. I live in California believe me, most of the people here dont speak english as their first language. A college professor of mine had a heavy pakistan accent and it sounded like Abu(the 7-11 owner) from the simpson< american version) but we still had to pass the class. If what you have to say is important people will listen. Also I would suggest that readers of this post will use proper pronounciation of people's names and places. I see this done way too often and i understand its a habit for older people but I would suggest saying it the way that local people say it. That way when your asking for directions its much less confusing. I think that is all for tonight > sorry i have roamed too far off topic.
