McGregor Straps on Jackboots

Ewan McGregor has joined the voice cast of the weird action figure-powered
movie Jackboots on Whitehall, which we first told you about here last month.
Already providing voices are Tom Wilkinson, Alan Cumming, Rosamund Pike,
Richard E. Grant, and Timothy Spall but Ewan will use his star power in the
film’s lead.
The movie takes a page from the brilliant and biting Trey Parker/Matt Stone
puppet movie Team American World Police and will be filmed entirely using
G.I. Joe-style action figures. I guess we’re talking stop-motion here.
Ewan plays a heroic Scottish farmhand who leads a resistance and saves the
girl. Also joining the cast is Richard Griffiths, who voices Luftwaffe leader
Hermann Goering and Alan Cumming as Hitler. That’s right, Alan Cumming as
Hitler. Something about that is pure genius. Timothy Spall plays Churchill.
I’m still surprised that this isn’t just some low-budget novelty. It’s a
spoof yes, but one with a increasingly big-time cast and first-time director
Edward McHenry has a multi-million budget to work with. If people like
McGregor and Cumming are buying into it, maybe they have something.
