hy community,
i want to buy me a new pc (i want to buy a new g5 but i haven't enough
money, so i decided to buy i386 :-(
now i'm running freebsd 4.8 on my old pc with an geforce 2mx, and i
want also buy a new grafic-card (geforce 4 or 5...); my questions is:
what cards are supported by the official nvidia driver ? the nv driver
of xfree supports a lot of the new nvidia cards, but i want to play
3d-games like ut2003 with freebsd and i need the official driver to
play... i didn't find anything in the readme or the nvidia-site..
or has anybody a geforce fx5200 with nvidia-drivers running under
freebsd ?

thx for the answer...
the nv driver by xfree supports a lot of the new geforce cards...
but what about the official nvidia driver ?
did someone play on freebsd with a geforce 4 or 5 with the
official nvidia driver ?
with the nv driver you have only 2d and with the official nvidia
driver you can play 3d games like ut2003... like i do, but i
have only a geforce2mx...

I have used it on a GF4. Basically, if you spend the bucks and buy a
halfway decent brandname card, you probably wont have but minor tuning
issues with XF. Gut the darned xf86cfg stuff, and do a google search
for a conf file sample and adapt to your needs. I've run various
things with their enhanced MesaGL, native and linux binaries using
fullscreen GL via nvidia driver. Even linux-epsxe works okay with the
right plugins. I wish we had a driver for usb gamepads for emu's and
some games but until then, I'll use my sound card based pad. Heck I've
even run Winex2 under it, still trying to get winex3 to work. Have yet
to try cvs tho. Never bothered with UT2k3, but I'm confident it would
work okay. You might wish to play around with Nvidia Agp and freebsd's
agp driver tho. Your mileage will vary depending on your system. One
locks one card, not the other and vice versa.

440, 512MB DDR, 80GBx2 Promise FastTrak100 raid1, CMedia audio, AMD
