1. please read the sane project pages about
   (a) supported device
       if your scanner is not listed on supported devices,
       just wait :P

   (b) read document and manual first (important!)

2. prerequisite software

   install following software via ports

    /usr/ports/graphics/sane-backends/
    /usr/ports/graphics/sane-frontends/
    /usr/ports/graphics/xsane

   gimp (if you want gimp support)

3. (if you enable gimp support)
   use symbolic links to enable gimp plugins

   #ln -sf /usr/X11R6/bin/xsane ~/.gimp-1.2/plug-ins/xsane
