Lyon have named Gerard Houllier as their new manager.

The French champions have named Houllier as the successor to Paul Le Guen
after he revealed earlier this month he would be stepping down at the end of
the season.

Houllier, who has been out of work since leaving Liverpool last summer, has
signed a two-year deal at Lyon with the option of a third.

The former France national team coach has beaten a host of top names for the
post at Stade Gerland.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas admitted he was looking for an experienced
manager at the helm and Houllier has a wealth of experience in club and
international football.

"We are very happy to greet Gerard, who becomes the club's new coach,"said
Aulas.

"I am privately convinced it is the right choice,"

Houllier has a tough act to follow in Le Guen with the former France
international helping Lyon win the title for the last three seasons.
