Turkey escapes penalty

The Turkish Motorsport Federation (TOFSED) will not pay the $2.5 million
fine that the FIA was claiming against it following the controversy over
the podium ceremony at last year's Turkish Grand Prix.
Formula One's governing body council reprimanded the organisation on
Wednesday but it was decided that the fine was unnecessary. TOFSED and race
organisers MSO were supposed to each pay $2.5 million of the $5 million
dollar fine. MSO paid its half of the fine last year.
The fine was originally imposed after the Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet
Ali Talat was presented to the podium as the President of the Turkish Cypriot
'state', which is only recognised by Turkey and not the international
community.

和國」(Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus，賽普勒斯島上的土耳其裔所建立
的「國家」，全世界只有土耳其承認這個國家)的總統Mehmet Ali Talat，引發了賽
普勒斯的抗議。
F1官方於是決定重罰500萬美金，TOFSED和MSO各罰250萬美金。MSO去年繳了罰
金，F1官方在星期三的會議中則免除了TOFSED的250萬美金罰金。
