CRB says Glock free to race for Toyota

Timo Glock looks set to land a racing seat at the Toyota team next season
after the Contract Recognition Board ruled the German is free to race for the
Japanese squad, autosport.com has learned.
GP2 champion Glock is believed to have agreed a deal with Toyota for 2008,
but a conflict was found with some of the conditions detailed in his current
contract at BMW Sauber.
The matter was sent to the CRB to be decided, and autosport.com understands
the body has ruled that Glock is free to race for Toyota in 2008.
The Cologne-based team are yet to announce the deal officially.
The news means that BMW Sauber will need to find a new test driver for 2008.
Several drivers have been linked with the role, including Marko Asmer, Adam
Carroll, Christian Vietoris and Nico Hulkenberg.

BMW Sauber are considering holding a 'shoot-out' evaluation of test driver
candidates at next month's Jerez test as they bid to find a replacement for
Timo Glock, autosport.com has learned.
As we revealed yesterday, Glock is set to be confirmed as a Toyota race
driver imminently, after Formula One's Contract Recognition Board ruled
earlier this week that his ties to BMW Sauber were no longer valid.
Glock's move means that BMW Sauber now need to find a new test and reserve
driver for next season, and BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen has hinted
at the possibility that up to three candidates for the job could drive for
them at Jerez so their potential can be evaluated.

"We might have one, two or maximum three guys in the car at the December test
in Jerez, and then we should come to a decision before the end of the year,"
he said when asked by autosport.com about how soon he expected to make a
decision about a new tester.

Theissen has been paying close attention to the Formula Three field at Macau
this weekend, having famously signed Robert Kubica after seeing him finish
runner-up in the 2005 event.

Speculation in the paddock has strongly linked British F3 champion Marko
Asmer with the BMW Sauber test deal, and Theissen admitted the Estonian was a
strong contender.

"He (Marko) would be a potential candidate for a future test drive, one of

I know them from the past years and I want to see how they develop. And then
there are a few others."
Champ Car racer and former Red Bull F1 driver Robert Doornbos has also been
linked with the BMW role.

Christian Vietoris, winner of the Formula BMW World Final 2006, is about to
celebrate his debut behind the wheel of a Formula One car: For the occasion
of the Formula BMW World Final, the 18-year-old will conduct first test laps
on the "Circuit de la Comunitat" in Valencia.
Vietoris prepared for this event with an intensive training programme
focussing on strengthening his neck muscles, which will suffer particular
strain due to the g-forces experienced in a Formula One car. In addition, he
received detailed technical instructions regarding the handling of the BMW
Sauber F1 Team vehicle last week.
The German is, nevertheless, anxious to see what awaits him: "Everyone tells
me the brakes are extremely powerful - and the g-forces," he told German
media representatives. "I try to imagine the circuit much faster than I have
actually experienced it so far. This way I can at least prepare as
intensively as possible for the procedures in the car."
Vietoris received the opportunity of a Formula One test with the BMW Sauber
F1 Team as a reward for his victory at last year's edition of the Formula BMW
World Final. At this event, the German driver had dominated his competitors
in Valencia and managed to crown a fantastic season, during which he had won
the title in the Formula BMW Germany with ease.
