Hunt Jr follows in father's footsteps

  Freddie Hunt is to follow in his world champion father’s footsteps by
racing in the UK Formula Ford championship in 2007.

  The 19-year-old, son of 1976 world champion James, has signed up to race
in the junior series, with the season marking his first full campaign of
car racing.

  Hunt had been linked to a drive in the Formula Palmer Audi series following
a successful test earlier this year, but has now committed to racing in the
category that his father competed in between 1968-69.

 “I am relived and excited to have made this decision,” he said.

 “There is a range of racing categories for young drivers to choose from
nowadays, but after long deliberations I have concluded that Formula Ford
is the best option for me.

  "The fact that my father and my uncle, David, both raced in Formula Ford
is a bonus and I am proud to be carrying on the family tradition with Ford.
I can't wait to get started."

  Although Hunt tested the latest Van Diemen chassis last week, he has yet
to sign with a team or announce details of sponsors.

  Hunt only competed in his first car race late last year as part of a
Silverstone Motorsport Academy course at the British Grand Prix venue.

    James Hunt在1976年戲劇性地以1分險勝Niki Lauda，幫McLaren拿下隊史第2座
車手世界冠軍時，駕駛的McLaren M23就是使用F1史上最著名引擎之一的Ford Cosworth
DFV V8引擎。Freddie Hunt這回加入Formula Ford可說是和Ford再續前緣。
