'BAR to offer Honda engines in exchange for Jenson'

  BAR will offer to supply Williams with Honda engines in exchange for
retaining Jenson Button, according to reports.

  The compromise would see Williams, without an engine supplier for next
season after being dropped by BMW, supplied with the same engines as BAR
for 2006. In return, Williams would have to relinquish their contractual
rights to Button's services next season.

  Considering the relative performances of both teams at present, it's a
compromise that would presumably be welcomed by Jenson, too.

  BAR have already spoke of their wish to reach a "behind closed doors"
agreement with Williams over Jenson, with team boss Nick Fry also pointedly
noting: "We have a Honda engine and we have Honda as half owners of the
company and Williams don't appear to have an engine at the moment."

  The value BAR are attaching to retaining Button is certainly of the
eyebrow-raising variety.

  As well as offering engines to Williams worth to the tune of ￡10m-a-year
in order to keep him, the team are reportedly set of offer the Englishman
a five-year deal worth ￡50m.

  What was that about money not mattering, Jenson?
