As the 11 Formula One teams switched to the Canadian and US Grand Prix configuration at Paul Ricard today for the third day of testing, Kimi Raikkonen launched himself to the top the timesheets after taking over from Felipe Massa who competed two days of Monaco-esq. running for the team.

Raikkonen, fresh from his disappointment in Barcelona following a hydraulics failure, completed 50 laps with a best time of 1:28.833s in what was a tight field in which the fastest eight runners were covered by eight-tenths of a second.

Scott Speed is certainly under pressure to perform and when his car doesn't fall apart, which is sadly rarely, the American seems to be on the pace as underlined by the second fastest time today in his Ferrari powered Toro Rosso.

Another man under pressure is Heikki Kovalainen, but his third fastest time in testing today will be viewed as a positive result in the disappointing Renault R27 package, especially as the Finn out-paced the much lauded F1.07 BMW Sauber of Robert Kubica who was fourth fastest.

Mark Webber took P5 today for Red Bull Renault as they continue to show good consistent pace from the PB3 package, while Franck Montagny took over from Ralf Schumacher at Toyota and was a solid sixth fastest ahead of Alex Wurz in the Williams.


Pedro de la Rosa was back in action for the McLaren Mercedes squad from Lewis Hamilton who had set the pace during both of the high-downforce Monaco simulations. The Spanish test driver was eighth fastest, but still just seven-tenths off the ultimate pace.

Over at Honda and Rubens Barrichello and test driver Christina Klien shared driving duties and proved closely matched as they took the ninth and tenth fastest times respectively ahead of James Rossiter who was back in action for Super Aguri Honda.

Underlining the massive task facing the Spyker squad, Christijan Albers and Marcus Winkelhock brought up the bottom of the timesheets a whopping two seconds slower than anyone else.

Testing resumes on Friday in what is the final day of running ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.
